A life long learner of music and humanity, she created Bull City Music School to further spread a message of love, respect and self-confidence through music performance. Jeanetta first felt the love of classical music with her uncle, famed jazz pianist, Rozelle Claxton. Jeanetta went on to study the viola and majored in music education at Jackson State University in Mississippi.
She is committed to serving her community and making music education accessible through her foundation, Bull City Performing Arts. A sought after pedagogue, Jeanetta can be found mentoring pre-service music educators and advocating for underrepresented composers and musicians.
April 30- May 2, 2021 ushers in the first ever Claxton Powell Music Festival, which celebrates diversity in music education and performance. It will be presented virtually; curated by Jeanetta it will include panel discussions and performances, including a recital by pianist Joseph Williams
