NC HIP FESTIVAL PREVIEW LECTURE

Historical performance practices or HIP, is the presentation of music in a style we believe is representative of how a work was heard at the time it was written. The 2018 NC HIP Music Festival will present musical performances and events centered around these practices with period instruments from the Baroque and Renaissance periods. Dr. Jonathan Kramer from NC State and Duke universtiy, will speak about the HIP movement in the last 30 years. He will reveal the differences between historical and modern performance, how standards of early music performance are determined (since we have no musical recordings from the 17^th century) and the development of musical instruments from Renaissance to the 19^th century.
