SUMMARY:PARTNER EVENT: the breath of life with the Concert Singers of Cary
DESCRIPTION:the breath of life\, conducted by Lindsey Woodcock\nSaturday\, April 11\, 7:30 pm\nSt. Francis United Methodist Church\, 2965 Kildaire Farm Rd\, Cary \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Concert Singers of Cary and Mallarme Music will perform the breath of life\, Dan Forrest’s evocative multi-movement reflection on the beauty and joy of new life juxtaposed with the pain of loss. Using choir\, strings\, piano\, solo cello\, percussion\, organ\, and electronics\, Forrest creates a rich and poignant soundscape intertwined with profound and compelling texts from Scripture as well as classic and modern poetry. The emotional arc of the music beautifully mirrors that of life\, from the miracle of birth to the bereavement of death\, the love that makes life meaningful\, and the human breath that connects us all. \nOn either side of this poignant work\, there will be several shorter pieces that connect to the same themes of love\, loss\, and the breath that connects us all. Those pieces are: \n“All that Hath Life and Breath” by Rollo Dilworth\n“Come to Me\, My Love” by Norman Della Joio\n“Geistliches Lied” by Brahms (also with string orchestra)\n“The Music of Living” by Dan Forrest \nTickets $5-$25 PURCHASE

SUMMARY:FAMILY CONCERT: The Woman Who Fell from the Sky with New River Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:FAMILY CONCERT: May 9\, 2026 2:00 pm\nDurham County Library\, Main Branch\nSponsored by Mark and Cindy Kuhn \nJoin Mallarme as we present the New River Ensemble as they tell an indigenous American story of the creation of the world and the story of John Henry and automation in life today. There will be a tour the zoo with music from Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals and a re-imagining of songs for beginning musicians Book 1: The Klezmer Set and our arrangements from Debussy’s Children’s Corner. \nFamily Concerts are hour-long concerts appropriate for anyone 5 years and older and are FREE!  \nNew River Ensemble draws upon a wide array of influences to present chamber music programs for general audiences and for kids and families\, film scores\, and educational workshops that tug at the boundaries that traditionally bind “chamber music ensembles.” NRE moves smoothly from standard repertoire to modern composition\, from extended techniques to improvisation. Their programs juxtapose pieces from different time periods and genres\, challenging audiences to hear these pieces in a new light. In addition to mining the clarinet and flute trio repertoire of the past centuries\, NRE arranges and composes much of their own music. The members of NRE are Martha Hyde (clarinet\, flute\, saxophone\, composer)\, Lisa Liske (cello)\, and Brendan Cooney (piano\, plucked strings). \nFREE
