SUMMARY:PARTNER EVENT: A Stranger in a Strange Land with the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:Mallarmé Music presents our friends\, the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra (NCBO) as they explore an intriguing program of music by composers born in one country who traveled to other countries to compose and play music. You’ll hear the influences of their birthplaces\, along with new influences from their adventures to other lands. Georg Frideric Handel was born in Germany\, studied and made his first mark in Italy and spent his career in England. Willem de Fesch of the Netherlands joined Handel’s orchestra in London. Jean-Baptiste Lully\, a consummate Frenchman\, was born Giovanni Battista Lulli in Italy. Joseph Bologne\, Chevalier de Saint-Georges traveled from his birthplace\, the French colony of Guadeloupe\, to France. Born to a French planter and an enslaved African woman\, Chevalier de Saint-Georges gained his education and his musical training in France\, becoming a virtuoso violinist\, composer and conductor. Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre\, though living her life in France\, could be called a stranger in a strange land – making her way in musical society as one of the very few professional female composers must have been just as challenging as for a foreign composer making their way in a new country. \nThe North Carolina Baroque Orchestra is a period instrument ensemble co-founded in 2011 by sisters Frances Blaker (artist director) and Barbara Blaker Krumdieck (executive director and cellist). \nDuring the orchestra’s 10 years\, they have been happy to bring performances to many venues in North Carolina as well as South Carolina\, Virginia\, Georgia and Tennessee\, often working with local choirs. \nPlease visit their website at https://www.ncbaroqueorchestra.org \nTickets: $20 Adults/ $5 children and students \nPURCHASE TICKETS \nPROGRAM\nOuverture from Céphale et Procris (1694) –  Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre (1665 – 1729) \nPassacaille from Armide (1686) – Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632 – 1687) \nString Quartet in c minor\, op. 1\, no. 4 – Joseph Bologne\, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745 – 1799)\n \nInstrumental Pieces from Rinaldo (1731) – George Frideric Handel  (1685 – 1759) \nConcerto [Grosso] – Georg Philipp Telemann  (1681 – 1767) \nPassacaglia from Sonata no. 5 from Armonico Tributo (1682) – Georg Muffat (1645 – 1704) \nSinfonia in d minor (FK 65) – Wilhelm Friedemann Bach (1710 – 1784) \nChaconne from Dardanus (1739) – Jean-Philippe Rameau (1683 – 1764) \nNorth Carolina Baroque Orchestra Director ~ Frances Blaker \nViolin 1: Martie Perry Janelle Davis\, Belinda Swanson and Hunter Harris\nViolin 2: David Wilson Annie Loud\, Allison Willet and Aimee Rieger\nViola: Marta Howard\, Joey O’Donnell\, Asa Zimmerman and John O’Brien\nCello: Barbara Krumdieck\, Lisa Liske and Sally Blaker\nViolone: Sarah Wines\nHarpsichord: Barbara Weiss\nFlute: Chuck Wines and Barbara Norton\nOboe: Sung Lee\, Will Thauer and Sarah Weiner\nBassoon: Sally Merriman

His first show was at the IEEE annual banquet and featured a self-built single color laser projector and used function generators out of the college lab to perform live abstracts to music. Intrigued with how laser projectors work\, Jason started building his own systems in his garage. In 2013 Jason build his first full color RGB system. This was also the first system that interfaced with control software providing recording capabilities. Using Mathematics and Science\, Jason was able to transform a laser into an artistic display of abstract colors and patterns and sync it to music. Learning about various hardware and software platforms Jason decided to build a custom live performance console. The console features old school analog controls\, as well as new school digital controls. What really sets his console apart are the two laser projector preview windows. With the power of the live console and the recognition of the community Jason formed Salty Robot Productions in 2018. Salty Robot Productions has been working out of the Charlotte NC area and has been able to provide laser FX for the Carolina Panthers and All Elite Wrestling. Live laser shows have been included with Western Piedmont Symphony in Newton NC\, Yuri’s Night at Kennedy Space Center\, and at Bach Akademie Charlotte. Salty Robot Productions partnered with local cellist Kelvin Chang to form Chromatic Strings in 2022\, blending classical cello music with abstract laser entertainment.

SUMMARY:CONCERT: The Golem silent film with live score in Lancaster\, SC
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, October 29\, 2023 @ 7:00 pm\, Lancaster Cultural Arts Center\, Lancaster\, SC\nSilent Film with original music for baroque string quintet\, written by Mark Bergman\nDownload The Golem press release\n\nARTISTS\nDavid Wilson\, Matvey Lapin – violin/ Suzanne Rousso – viola/ Barbara Krumdieck – cello/\nMark Bergman – bass/ Jennifer Streeter – harpsichord \n\n\nWidely recognized as the source of the Frankenstein myth\, the ancient Hebrew legend of the Golem provides substance for one of the most adventurous films of the German silent cinema. Suffering under the tyrannical rule of Rudolf II in 16th-century Prague\, a Talmudic rabbi creates a giant warrior to protect the safety of his people. Sculpted of clay and animated by the mysterious secrets of the Kabbalah\, the Golem is a seemingly indestructible juggernaut\, performing acts of great heroism\, yet equally capable of dreadful violence. \nWhen the rabbi’s assistant takes control of the Golem and attempts to use him for selfish gain\, the lumbering monster runs rampant\, abducting the rabbi’s daughter and setting fire to the ghetto. With its remarkable creation sequence (a dazzling blend of religion\, sorcery\, and special effects) and the grand-scale destruction of its climax\, “The Golem” was one of the greatest achievements of the silent era and remains an undeniable landmark in the evolution of the horror film. \n\n\nSingle tickets are $15 through the Lancaster Cultural Arts Center  http://www.lcshp.org/cultural-arts-center-concerts-events

SUMMARY:Dynamic Duos in Durham Mini Fest: ONYX CLUB BOYS DUO
DESCRIPTION:DYNAMIC DUOS IN DURHAM: ONYX CLUB BOYS DUO\nGabriel Pelli\, guitar/violin\nBen Lassiter\, guitar\nTuesday\, June 11\, 2024 7:00 pm\nMissy Lane’s Assembly Room\, 310 E. Main St.\, Ste. 100 Durham NC 27701 \nFROM THE ARTISTS:\nThe concert will feature music either written or performed by Django Reinhardt\, who worked in Paris in the 1930’s and 40’s. His music is now the folk music of the Western European Gypsies\, also known as the Sinti tribe. It is most often referred to as Gypsy Jazz\, Jazz Manouche\, or Hot Club Jazz. \n$10 suggested donation at the door. Cash or Credit Card \nREAD THE PRESS RELEASE: Mallarmé 2024 Dynamic Duos Announcement FINAL \nWhat is Dynamic Duos? In the fall of 2020\, Mallarmé’s board spearheaded a new directive to diversify offerings both musically and via the personnel who perform in our concerts. Couldn’t our performances better reflect our community while keeping a high standard of performance? \nThe goal of the Dynamic Duo Call for Talent is to discover new (or new to us) North Carolina musical talent and to expand on the style and genre of our usual programming. North Carolina musicians of any type\, including jazz\, folk\, and rock were asked to apply\, especially members of the LBGTQIA+\, African American and Latinx communities. Applicants were asked to propose a 60-minute program and to provide artist bios and musical examples of the specific artists.  Performers were chosen on the strength of their proposed program\, musical samples and\, most importantly\, the way they interact with one another. Four groups were picked to perform this year – 3 during June 2024 as part of the Dynamic Duo Mini-Festival\, and the last group will perform in the fall.

SUMMARY:Dynamic Duos in Durham Mini Fest: BROWN MOUNTAIN LIGHTNING BUGS
DESCRIPTION:DYNAMIC DUOS IN DURHAM: BROWN MOUNTAIN LIGHTNING BUGS\nKendra Harding – Guitar\nZachery (Zack) Harding – Mandolin\nTuesday\, June 18\, 2024 7:00 pm\nHuron Stage\, 2329 Huron St\, Durham\, NC 27707 \nFROM THE ARTISTS:\nAs full-time performers of original music\, this program would allow us to present our unique blend of traditional folk styles with contemporary themes and techniques to a new audience. With decades of experience performing and training in a variety of styles from classical to rock\, we offer listeners the opportunity to step into a different kind of listening experience where genres are blended and bent to create something that sticks with people. \n$10 suggested donation at the door. Cash or Credit Card \nNotes about Huron Stage: https://www.instagram.com/huronstagemusicvenue/ \nHuron Stage is an outdoor venue in the Tuscaloosa-Lakewood neighborhood of Durham. It is behind a small bungalow\, in their double-lot backyard and parking for the venue is on the street. You may park on both sides of the street but please do not block any driveways. There is a covered stage for the performers\, and many picnic tables/benches around the stage on a mostly shaded lawn and you may opt to bring a lawn chair or blanket. This is a family-oriented space and neighbors typically bring food and drink for the audience to enjoy for free. Also\, you might want to wear some bug spray but know we will have some available for you to use.\n \nRegrettably\, it is currently not handicapped accessible although I know the owner\, Josh Glasson\, is working to make it so. There are a few steps down to the backyard which is relatively easy to negotiate but will not accommodate a wheelchair. There is an indoor restroom and a small indoor performance space in case of rain. If it looks like severe weather forecast we will cancel the performance and reschedule it for later in the summer. We’ll post a cancellation on the homepage of our website\, www.mallarmemusic.org\, on Mallarme’s FaceBook page\, and on the office phone message @ 919-560-2788 by 5:30 pm.  \nREAD THE PRESS RELEASE: Mallarmé 2024 Dynamic Duos Announcement FINAL \nWhat is Dynamic Duos?
