Asian Residency - March, 2008
The First Annual Mallarmé Chamber Players Artistic Excellence Award For the first time in its 24 year history, Mallarmé Chamber Players, in conjunction with the North Carolina Symphony’s 2008 Youth Concerto Competition, offered awards for promising young musicians with an interest and aptitude in chamber music. From a field of very fine contestants, Mallarmé’s Artistic Director Anna Wilson and Executive Director Mickaella Guarascio selected two top prize winners: saxophonist Andrew F. Hall (age 21) and violinist Colin Laursen (age 14), both of Durham. Each winner takes home a check for $1,000 to use toward furthering their musical ambitions. |
Community Outreach
Mallarmé brings music of high artistic quality to people who ordinarily
would not attend live concert performances because of economic, medical
or other considerations. We regularly perform in residential homes for
the aged and infirm, in correctional facilities, in low-income neighborhood
centers and similar venues. We also perform at community-wide events such as the International Festival and
Father's Day Celebration sponsored by the Durham Department of Parks and Recreation.

Educational Outreach
Mallarmé musicians have a well-founded reputation for being "up
close and personal," whether we're making bamboo flutes with a classroom
of third-graders or performing classical music for an entire student body
in an auditorium. Our residencies and educational concerts are designed
with input from each school or community with whom we work. Our music is
engaging. Our residencies are authentic and curriculum-based. Through residencies
and performances we use music to communicate, educate and inspire their
audience toward self-discovery. Teacher workshops are available for
all of our residencies.
